School-Led Tutoring

The National tutoring programme is intended to help close the education gap which widened as a result as Covid-19. We know that disadvantaged and vulnerable children faced more barriers during school disruptions.

As a school, mainly due to the age of our children, we chose to provide School-led tutoring for these children. This was delivered by our own teachers and teaching assistants.

As our children were receiving support from our own staff, they were able to work closely with the children's class teachers to monitor support, progress and impact.

Tutoring took place in short sessions after school in small groups to maximise impact. The children thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and looked forward to receiving extra time with their teachers and TAs.

The impact of the teacher-led tutoring has been remarkable.

 Year 2 attainment

  • 8 out of 12 children achieved age related expectations in reading
  • 9 out of 12 children achieved  age related expectations in writing
  • 9 out of 12 children achieved age related expectations in maths

Year 2 progress

  • Reading - 6 children moved from below expected to expected.
  • Writing - 7 children moved from below expected to expected.
  • Maths - 6 children moved from below expected to expected.

There was also a noticeable improvement in confidence and attitude towards learning from all of the children who engaged with the tutoring.
